KINGSTON, Jamaica - Bob Marley's records long ago went platinum. Now the Bank of Jamaica is releasing commemorative coins in gold and silver with the late reggae superstar's dreadlocked likeness.

The 1,000 coins, produced by the British Royal Mint, are being sold for $100 each, bank spokeswoman Jacqueline Morgan said Wednesday.

"We've received quite a bit of interest already," Morgan said.

Though the coins were intended to mark the 60th anniversary of Marley's birth, which was celebrated in 2005, the bank is just now offering them for sale, said Morgan, who didn't offer a further explanation.

It is the second time the Bank of Jamaica has issued coins bearing Marley's likeness. "The coins to commemorate his 50th birthday have totally sold out," Morgan said.

Born in Jamaica's rural St. Ann parish, Marley rose from the gritty shantytowns of Kingston to global stardom in the 1970s with hits such as "No Woman No Cry" and "I Shot the Sheriff." His lyrics promoting "one love" and social revolution made him an icon in developing countries worldwide.

Marley, who died of cancer in Miami at age 36 in 1981, remains one of Jamaica's most beloved national heroes.

I've come across this song on the net, it's entiled WAIT FOR ME. The lyrics is quite mushy...hehehe...can relate to it...oh, and the artist is FLAW same artist who sang RECOGNIZE and BEST I AM... Just kinda connected to the song...

Mayon unleashes 7th minor explosion in last 24 hours

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded at 4:13 p.m. the seventh minor explosion at Mayon Volcano in the last 24 hours, according to a report Saturday of radio station dzBB.

The explosion caused ash fall over Sto. Domingo town and Tabaco City in Albay.

The latest explosion brings the total Mt. Mayon minor explosions to 18 since Monday, when Phivolcs raise Alert Level 4 over the rea.

Phivolcs officials said they expect more minor explosions before the "big bang" happens, probably in a few days, or at most in a few weeks.

Phivolcs had recorded six earlier explosions between 5 a.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Saturday — at 5:14 a.m., 5:18 a.m., 12:11 p.m., 2:25 p.m. and 3:50 p.m. Friday, and 3:54 a.m.

"The 3:50 p.m. Friday ash explosion was among the largest to date, based on instrumental records since the volcano began spewing ash last Aug. 7. The smaller ash explosions of (Friday) and early morning (Saturday) were not observed due to thick rain clouds which covered the summit and middle slopes of the volcano," Phivolcs said in its website.

Phivolcs also noted 48 volcanic quakes caused by magma going up inside the volcano. Lava flow also triggered about 442 minor tremors. Sulfur dioxide emission also remained high, at 6,876 tons per day as of Friday.

Phivolcs repeated its reminder for residents to observe safety precautions relevant as Alert Level 4 remains in effect.

The extended danger zone (EDZ) at the southeast sector of the volcano is 8 kilometers from the summit crater. In other areas, the EDZ 7 kilometers. Areas outside of the EDZ are advised to be on the alert for updates regarding their status for possible evacuation in case volcanic activity intensifies.
